    Laser Processing Consortium (LPC) Workshop
    and FEL User Meeting
    January 18-19, 2001

    Jefferson Lab
    Newport News, VA  23606

    AGENDA

A user program for the JLab FEL is underway by members of the LPC and other interested parties from the university, industry and national laboratory R&D communities. In particular, a formal proposal procedure is now in place for basic research experiments and a Program Advisory Committee has been put in place to review proposals and help establish scheduling priorities. Working groups have been formed for FEL applications involving micromachining, biochemistry, metal surface processing, pulsed laser deposition, electronic materials, AMO physics, chemical physics and condensed phase dynamics. The first user experiments were performed by a number of users groups who participated in the five FEL experimental runs in July and November 1999 and in February, July and October 2000.

This workshop will be a forum for existing and interested members of the FEL user community on the following topics:

    • status report of the operation of the IR FEL and FEL upgrades at JLab
    • results from FEL user experiments
    • reports on FEL user proposals
    • working group workshops on existing and new proposals
    • status reports from other FEL user facilities in the US
    • summary of the October workshop on “Scientific Frontiers with Accelerator Based Lasers
    • tutorial session on photon science by the UVA IGERT program
