FEL Status
We have run into problems of a persistent field emitter in the FEL gun, which necessitates a repair. This means that the gun will not be commissioned prior to the June 1 shut-down of the central helium liquefier.
We expect to be ready for operations as soon as the liquefier is returned to operation. This turn-on process is planned for the middle of September.
During our long shutdown we have completed several upgrades to safety and operational systems, and have installed a test stand for new guns in an enclosure that is separate from the main FEL.
On the FEL itself, we have installed a new drive laser, new optical transport system to the user labs, and new mirrors in the cavity.
