Due to an endian compatibility problem between SunOS and Linux, the Perl DBM files can only be used on the system on which they were created. Since our cooking code is much faster on the Linux batch farm machines than the SunOS batch machines, all of the cooking is done on Linux. Thus, all of the database files are created on Linux machines. This means that all utilities to look at these database files must be executed on Linux machines. Efforts to overcome this endian problem have failed so far. Plans are being made to keep a copy of this database in an web accessible MSQL database.
