C.1   Forward carriage (1/28/98)

Three points shall support this carriage at any time; the points are marked on the carriage

CONTINIOUSLY OBSERVE THE CARRIAGE FOR OBSTICLES AS IT IS MOVING

Procedures for the moving of the forward carriage from the data position. All items are order of operation.

Only Qualified trained personnel are permitted to lead in the moving of the Forward Carriage at this time are Doug Tilles and John Robb

  1. Disconnect clamshell patch panels for the Time of Flight detectors from the forward carriage. This will call for crane support for reaching the upper cables in the lift chair.
  2. Disconnect Italian Calorimeter cables and coil up and store on the forward carriage.
  3. Disconnect panel four Time of Flight cables and ground cables.
  4. Remove stairs to the alcove platform.
  5. Remove alcove platform that spans the forward carriage to dump alcove.
  6. Chain off the openings for the platform on the forward carriage.
  7. Chain off the opening at the dump alcove.
  8. Chain off stairs to forward carriage.
  9. Lift catwalks to 2nd and 3rd level, insure they are clear of the handrails and lines for power and water.
  10. Clean off tracks and bearings, 1 - 12" Sq. bearing at the front of the carriage and 2 - 10" bearings at the rear of the carriage at each jack point.
  11. Place 100-ton jacks under each forward beam jack point shown on carriage. Jack both jacks evenly until the carriage lifts off the two block stacks.
  12. Place bearing on track, slide into position marked and hard shim.
  13. Remove shims under feet and the two block stacks under front beam.
  14. Place 100-ton jacks under rear beam at jack points and lift only what is needed to get the load off the block stacks under the feet.
  15. Place bearings on track at location marked on carriage and hard shim and lower the jacks.
  16. Remove shims from under feet and store for next use.
  17. Replace angle tracks on each side of carriage.
  18. Place jack stops on tracks, use only grades 8 bolts to secure.
  19. Place support stand on track to hold end of cylinder.
  20. Place retracted 24 inch cylinders on track between outrigger and jack stop.
  21. Shim gap between cylinder and jack stop.
  22. Hook up hydraulic lines from pump station to cylinder, with the orange and blue line to the advance port.
  23. Ensure all cables and interference is looked at so as to miss any obstacle.
  24. Start up each of the two pumps and advance till all shims are tight.
  25. Open pump regulator valve and run pressure to 1000 psi. And note pressure carriage starts to move at.
  26. Watch for alignment of side wheels on the guide tracks and regulate with the control valves on the pump station.
  27. Watch for the alignment of the beam pipe in the lead shield on the forward carriage.
  28. When max stroke is reached, retract cylinder.
  29. Lift jack out of jack stop and jack support.
  30. Move jack forward to next position and replace bolt.
  31. Replace jack support.
  32. Replace the jack and shim the gap to the outrigger.
  33. Start each pump and advance cylinder till shims are tight.
  34. Begin the move procedure again.
  35. When the end of the track is reached, repeat the jacking procedure and move the track back to last position.
  36. Replace bearing with the same shim pack as before.
  37. Start moving procedure over again.
  38. When the carriage is in it's retracted position, start reassembling the stairs.
  39. Replace all the catwalks and move the safety chains to the openings in the handrail.
  40. Insure no contact is made with the Cerenkov gas lines at the cable tray on the south side of the carriage.
  41. Remove cylinders and pumping station and store.

Elevation of Forward Carriage

South corner down stream 11.25 inch

North corner down stream 11.625 inch

Front 9.875 inch

C.2   CLAM Shell (1/21/98)

CONTINUOUSLY OBSERVE THE CARRIAGE FOR OBSTACLES AS IT IS MOVING

Only qualified trained personnel are permitted to lead in the moving of the carriages at this time are Doug Tilles and John Robb.

  2. Disconnect panel four TOF cables.
  3. Disconnect the Italian Calorimeter cables.
  4. Remove stairs and catwalks and chain off openings.
  5. Place 100 ton jack under front of clamshell in the middle to lift both feet.
  6. Lift until the feet shims just come free.
  7. Remove shims and store on frame of clamshell.
  8. Place clean bearing track in place.
  9. Place clean bearing into place.
  10. Hard shim bearing blocks.
  11. Lower on to front bearings.
  12. Move 100 ton jack to rear of clamshell and place in middle of frame.
