Minutes of the IR FEL Beam Transport Meeting, December 5, 1996

Next Meeting: Thursday December 5, in Room 84, Trailer City at 1:30 P.M.

ATTENDEES: S. Benson, G. Biallas, C. Bohn, D. Douglas, E. Feldl, K. Jordan, J. Karn, W. Merz, M. Wiseman

Schedule Comments, Decisions and other Comments:

Action Items:

G. Biallas - Get the BT contracts signed. Contracts needed to be changed to new DIMAD configuration. No progress on contracts, but requirements documents for each project being worked on.

L. Dillon-Townes - Respond to recommendations of the Vacuum review, including differential pumping issue. In process.

G. Biallas - Get recirculation dipoles designed by Northrop Grumman's V. Christina per the schedule. Optical Chicane Dipole at the 80 % level.

G. Neil - Have cable tray layout complete by Oct. 21. Cable tray meeting held and layout progressing. Drawing to be made for sign off. B. Shinault ordering tray.

G. Biallas - Publish with W. Merz, the projected voltage and current on all magnets and define the hysteresis cycle. Injection/extraction dipoles defined. Proposal to use standard Danphysik power supply approved if found to be superior.

G. Biallas - Hold the Design Review on Monday, Nov. 18. Partial review held. Dipoles actual properties match to specs needs more work. Use of µ metal and Percell Gap measurements indicate field flatness in x and over all excitations is within +- 1.5 parts in 10, 000. This is within specification. Final review to be held when notches effect on field flatness is known and magnetic length is within specification.

G. Biallas - Reestablish the basis for gaps on all dipoles. Caution, spread sheet has magnetic gap on injection dipoles (includes added dimension of Percell gaps). In Process.

D. Kehne - Contact Robin Wines to get and evaluate beam spot sizes in the Recirculation Dump.

L. Dillon-Townes - Order the entire stock of required vacuum hardware (including bolts and gaskets) In Process.

M. Wiseman - Order the right quantity of adjustment cartridges now that the stands are defined. In process. List now complete. Drawings of 3.5 inch version in process. G. Biallas to give name of original manufacturer to M. Wiseman.

M. Wiseman - Design X Chamber that is straightforward to build by last week in November. Check prints need incorporation. Initial transition needs finalization with B. Yunn.

C. Murray - Finalize injection line on machine drawing with evenly spaced QJ's.

D. Douglas/K. Bohn - Get Division agreement on frozen lattice. Complete.

New Action Items :

Group - Obtain 4 inch dia. quads for Recirculation Dump. G. Biallas to find if D. Walz has any extra wrap around quads at SLAC

M. Wiseman - Add conductivity control valve to Dump LCW.

M. Wiseman - Design and order the Back Leg stands and girders in order to have material to install in March.

Completed Action Items :

D. Douglas - Re do the lattice with the new K value, take into account the request to obtain a recirculation length of 498.5 cycles in order to allow prototyping of multipass monitoring (stretches the circumference by 1.6 m.) and add 6 inches to the space between cryomodule and recirculation dump dipole and re injection matching that is compatible with upgrade. Complete with best properties yet. D. Douglas will provide one more version to correct minor glitches. He wants to see layout before saying lattice is frozen.

E. Feldl - Get the windows on order for the 180 Degree Bends. In process with the necessary mirrors. Complete.

K. Jordan/E. Feldl - Evaluate the use of ports straight ahead at the Optical chicane dipoles to extract straight ahead OTR light and act as a synchrotron light monitor. Complete. This will be done.

D. Douglas - Set up meeting to finalize optics of injection line which will include B. Yunn's analysis of beam dynamics. Complete.
