Management

Highlights for the week include the following: This week was an installation/maintenance period for (1) completion of remaining hardware for the upcoming recirculation tests and (2) replacement of the photo cathode and bakeout of the photogun. In addition, planning activities for the upcoming kW demonstration and first user experiments continued.

On Thursday, July 16, Mr. David Merritt, Program Director for Advanced Technologies for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and Mr. Joung Cook, the Program Manager for the Navy High Energy Laser Officer visited the lab for a tour and briefing on the FEL.

FEL Installation Activities

The photocathode for the gun was replaced this week and the gun is being baked.

Four SC (sextupole) magnets were installed, connected, and aligned. Checkout is in progress for all the installed magnets in the 3F, 4F, and 5F regions. They will be needed for recirculation of the beam.

The insertable dumps were checked, reworked as needed, and realigned.

The installation of grating over the cryo lines was completed. They provide easier access to components behind the optical cavity and the back side of the cryomodule.

Steps were installed over the wiggler optical table to the above grating.
