existing ports so that the mods required are minimal. A prioritization was established for various locations. K. Jordan was directed to acquire the components and assemble and install as many as budget permits.

Installation and Checkout

A large amount of installation activity centered on the magnets for the recirculation of beam. Magnets already installed were powered to nominal values and the polarities checked. Proper response of all power supplies was verified. On the Software side the proper nomenclatures were added to the Save/Restore files so that those values will be properly reset on restart of the machine. Four sextupoles were installed and hooked up. This still leaves four to go but the present set is sufficient for recirculation. The shunt power supply for the return 180 magnet was installed and checked out.

Viewer operation in the return leg was verified. A BPM was installed just before the return leg into the straight accelerator line. This completes the minimum diagnostic set for running beam back to the accelerator. Two additional BPMs are out for repair and reinstallation in 2 weeks but their measurements are backed up by other diagnostics.

The water flow interlocks to all insertable dumps was checked out and operation of machine safety interlocks demonstrated. One sensor was found failed; this will be replaced in two weeks. A backup flow interlock is in place to permit safe running for the time being.

The optical cassette can installation and alignment to the polymer roller assembly was finished in Lab 1 and the transport line to Lab 1 put under vacuum. Electrical hookup was completed to the large roller assembly and 95% complete to the web roller.
