Management:
After last week's first light demonstration, we used this week for installation activities that allowed
us to prepare for pushing to kilowatt power levels. We also made detailed plans for the kilowatt
testing.
On Monday, June 22, the Jefferson Lab Industrial Advisory Board met to discuss the initial
operation and use of the FEL. IAB members from Armco, Aerospace Corp., IBM, Lucent, NNS,
CLI and Siemens attended the meeting.

Installation Activities
The highlights for this week for Installation activities are:
Eight beam line valves were replaced this week because of concerns about reliability. The 0G
dump beam line was modified to eliminate scraping. The entire machine was placed under
vacuum for the first time.
The DLPC was upgraded for operation at 37.4 MHz in beam mode 2 and 3. The DY magnets
were opened to install a synchrotron radiation monitor and limit switches on the mechanism.
The gun cathode was heat cleaned, HV processed, recesiated, and HV tested this week.
Four additional DF magnets were installed and their cables connected. Two DGs and 4 DCs were
placed, but not connected.
The viewer flag for ITV2F03A was changed from graphite to beryllium.
Additional grating was installed this week over the helium transfer lines. Approximately 75% of
the helium transfer lines behind the machine are now covered with gratings.
