MEMORANDUM
To: J. Albertine, D. Helms, W. Skinner
cc: Division (M7), FEL Coordination Group
From: F. Dylla
Subject: IR FEL Weekly Report: June 10-14, 1996
Date: June 14, 1996
Management:
_ DOE signed off on the Navy-DOE Memorandum of Agreement on June 11 marking the official start of the Navy funded IR FEL effort. Funds should be made available to Jefferson Lab by early next week.
_ The project schedule, budget and
earned value charts reported at the kick-off meeting in April
are being revised to reflect the revised overhead rates and project
start date. End dates will not change.
IR FEL Accelerator Systems
_ Received the Report of the FEL Accelerator Technical Review Committee concerning the Review held 23-25 April 1996; it was distributed throughout the Accelerator Division.
_ Submitted to Physical Review Letters a manuscript entitled "Transient Coherent Synchrotron Radiation in Magnetic Bending Systems" by Rui Li, Courtlandt L. Bohn, and Joseph J. Bisognano.
_ Error analyses and tolerances are underway for the transport lattice, and negotiations began this week to coordinate the first-cut calculated requirements for magnet tolerances with engineering, manufacturing, and measurement capabilities.
_ A suite of beam-diagnostic instrumentation for the 180-degree recirculation bends was identified and incorporated into the engineering design of these bends.
_ Burn-through calculations were initiated to determine time-scale limitations for tune-up procedures inherent in the commissioning process. These time scales also affect hardware and electronics requirements for the beam-position monitors.
IR FEL Optical Systems
_ Wiggler bids have been reviewed and clarification questions are back at the vendors for response before an award decision will be made.
_ Optics efforts concentrated on resolving issues identified during the May 19-30 Optics Workshop. A set of initial responses to the action items is in preparation for release next week.
_ Invitations were sent out for the FEL Commissioning Workshop to be held July 24 and 25.
FEL Facility
_ The building contractor began clearing the site as work commenced on the FEL building.
