Management
This week commissioning operations were suspended as we completed bake-out and high voltage
conditioning of the photogun after replacement of the GaAs photo cathode. At the week's end, we
are prepared to begin commissioning activities on Monday (6/1). We used the down-time
constructively to complete installation of important diagnostic systems (the Happek bunch length
spectrometers), alignment of reverse bend dipoles (DF) on the east arc, and refinement of the first
light commissioning procedures.
On Wednesday, May 27, the project successfully presented the Accelerator Readiness Review
(ARR) process to a peer review committee chaired by Larry Coulson, Asst. Director of Fermilab.
The draft report from the committee recommended that the laboratory should proceed with FEL
commissioning activities as planned and that the ARR process is appropriate to verify the
readiness of the machine for user experiments.
Only one committee finding needed to be dealt with prior to commencing high power (mA) beam
operation:approval of interim safety envelopes by Jefferson Lab management and the DOE Site
Office. This approval was obtained by Friday afternoon.

Installation Activities
The Happek interferometers were installed and aligned this week. Commissioning and testing will
be done the next week with beam.
Four cameras with radiation damage in the 2F or 2G regions were replaced. Two other cameras in
the 2F region were moved to their correct positions.
All IOC's were rebooted to install network diagnostics and other features.
Two DF magnets were installed, cables were pulled for additional correctors, and measurements
