• Byung reported on the optics setup for the long gun at 350 keV. He says that the 280 G in the gun solenoid is a must and beam degradation in the unit will result if changed more than a few G. The slides can be viewed on the www at: http://www.cebaf.gov/~legg/080697_comm/inj97.pdf. The second cavity in the cryounit is set off crest by 27.5 degrees.

  S. Benson pointed out that we will need to be careful of stray fields after the cryounit to prevent them from interfering with the very weak quad fields.

  The 60 pC case actually looks better with the 135 pC lattice than the 135 pC case. The alphas and betas do change, however, so the FEL turn-on transition would be to set up the 5 mA energy recovered beam and then lase, once the beam parameters go to the predicted values.

  Lia asked how the longitudinal emittance varies with the bunch charge and Byung said he wasn't sure; he'd need to model the case.

• Lia gave her overview of the rf gradient integration plan. The talk can be viewed at: http://www.cebaf.gov/~legg/080697_comm/RF_cavity_integration_plan.

  She also pointed out that to fill in the sensitivity spec table she will work with Byung's PARMELA sensitivity studies. The specs are her first priority and she is trying to have them ccomplete by next Tuesday.

• Steve reported that the standard FEL air core corrector won't fit around the wiggler, but the field strengths needed are low enough that we may be able to use linac type air cores from CEBAF. D. Douglas wrote a TN on the subject that's posted at: http://www.jlab.org/~douglas/FEL/technote/steer_to_wiggler.ps.
