A-26 Neil reported further progress on the IR camera. He presented a list of potential applications and preliminary estimates of signal to noise issues. The list seemed complete (no-one objected that their application was missed) and Jean Claude and Phillipe, who have been looking at this issue independently, agreed with George's general conclusion that from a signal to noise point of view, shorter wavelengths are preferred. His guess was that we would concentrate in the 1-2 um range, depending on the optical power levels and that we would have several cameras for different applications. He will continue to investigate a gated, intensified camera for special purposes, but is interested in testing a russian made intensified camera for use on the SLM ports. One lingering question is sensitivity to radiation.

Kevin is going to supply the russian intensifier to Jean Claude who will integrate it into a package for tests in the nuclear physics injector. Date of the test TBD.

Use lead sulphide detector to look at dump faces and interlock high power beam operations.

Sensitivity of the true IR cameras is very good; around 200 uw/cm2 at the source. For more documentation, see G. Neil's (excellent) report on the www.

A-20 D. Douglas and G. Krafft proposed phasing covities one at a time in the dump after the cryo module to avoid swapping magnets for the dump during the commissioning process. More thought is needed and Legg will organize a meeting next week. To familiarize people to the issues, Dave will give a brief overview next week.
