Items of Discussion

New Issues

Happek Device: in the ITS meeting the status of the Happek measurement of bunch length was discussed. The contract is set to start on July 1 and we can expect the first system done 90 days thereafter. The contract aparently includes 5 quarters of graduate student labor, which should help us get up to speed; Jordan will check the conditions are OK. The integration issues, both mechanical, and with EPICS, must be worked out, but we will be obtaining complete, remotely controllable instruments. Also, it goes without saying that it will be beneficial to obtain as much help as possible from him.

Synchrotron Light Monitor plans: again no meeting occurred. A meeting with Denard, Piot, Jordan, Benson, Krafft, and Bohn should be scheduled.

Action Items

A-03 No documentation confirmation as of 4/9/96.

A-19 A preliminary version of the documentation tree (hierarchy) is finally posted! The upper level laser requirements are also posted! Take a look and make comments.

A-26 Neil reported that he was obtaining reems of information on IR cameras, starting with LASER FOCUS magazine. An example is an 8 mum camera developed for security purposes. There should be a meeting this week, and hopefully a detailed proposal next week. A question about S/N came up. It was felt that Phillipe could perhaps provide a calculation of the total power ratio of SR power to blackbody power in a range from 400 nm to 10 mum, in order to find an optimal operating frequency. No due date for this calulation was agreed upon.

A-27 Bohn presented more findings on Autosteering. He summarized the discussion he had with Hutton, the only contentious issue that the plan provoked was a comment that one cannot ``cleanly'' correct the orbit with only six BPMs on the back leg, a statement that Douglas has consistently made throughout this ordeal. As for the availability, it was promised that we could assume we will have Autosteer and it will be free, beyond providing the obvious necessary inputs like BPM locations, optics, and requirements. The only issue needed to be resolve was the technical disagreement as to numbers of BPMs, which should be solvable with a calculation. Some combination of Douglas, Hutton, and Bohn will close this final issue.

A-32 As a result of previous meetings and lack of progress on 10 MeV emittance measurment plans, a meeting was held to discuss the UCLA slit arrangement. Bohn summarized the results of this meeting as follows. The meeting produced a scope of work and an estimate of the manpower needed to get the job done. Some engineering will be required to provide a cooling path for our relatively high average current beam, but the beam bunch parameters of our beam are very close to UCLA's. We also have to worry a little about suppressing secondaries. Currently, Bohn is to arranging for a point of contact who will be able to see this work through during the next few months.
