DC Groupers;
Here's mo' news:

DC operations manual: the manual is still not ready but it's being worked
on. Gail Dodge and Vardan Gyurjyan are working together to make DCHV easy
to use by the shift worker. They will help re-write the section on HV control.
Mike Vineyard, Wayne Major and George Jacob are reinvigorated after the
gas review (more below) and they will help re-write the section on gas system
monitoring. Junho Yun and Richard Thompson are in charge of online monitoring
and they will help re-write the section on that. Richard is getting us a
DC group pager which will be passed around among the DC experts on call. This
way the shift taker only needs to call this one number to get a DC expert.

Pulser system: The ADB boards have been fixed to match the polarity of the
16-SIP calibration trace on the Reg. 1 STB boards. Also, the level generation for the Enable/Inhibit
selection on the TCI boards has been shifted to VME control and is simpler to
use.

High voltage boards: Last week we met with CAEN representatives and their US
contact firm, WIENER. They have repaired four HV boards and have returned
them to us.

Electronic malfunction repair: Dan Carman has asked that no one TOUCH the
DC crate electronics without telling him what they intend to do and where.
That way, he can check for problems in the vicinity.

11th crate: Dan is coordinating work on instrumenting the backwards Region
1 wires into the 11th FASTBUS crate. We should have 6 of the 12 ADB boards
operational in December.

Pulser run: time calibration: Franz Klein has analyzed the latest pulser runs
to obtain the fixed time delays. Liming Qin is coordinating the final pulser
calibration using the utility RECCAL, developed by Francois Roudot.

Geometry and survey issues: Franz has changed RECSIS to incorporate
true 6-fold geometry. Rob Fuerbach and John McNabb will continue this
implementation.

Gas System Review: the review was held on Nov. 20, 21. The committee
gave us a summary of their findings on Nov. 21 and will give us a written
version soon. They had 7 primary recommendations; I added the 8th.
1-move safety bubblers to a point closer to the chamber.
2-add a 2nd press. transducer whose only function is to switch between
chamber flow and bypass.
3-condition the signals to reduce short-time fluctuations
4-tune the proportional valve control parameters.
5-get the mixture control and calibration system to work.
6-don't add additives without further study.
7-don't add pressure switch controlled solenoid valve without further tests
of the system after items 1 - 5 are implemented.
8-counting house should be alerted of bypass status.

DCHV: Vardan has had trouble with the CAEN software; he's busily working
on it.

SSL tracking: Liming has checked into the CVS system a new package which
fits one superlayers' hits to a track segment. It runs off of `cooked'
data. We plan to use it early in the run for feedback on tracking efficiencies.

Give me your feedback.

regards, Mac
