You need to have CERN_ROOT defined in your environment.

The easy answer is to do a:

setup cernlib

That should work, but that's not what I do. It takes a long time, and
I like having the definition in .cshrc. In my .cshrc, for the Sun
I have:

setenv CERN /site/cernlib/sun4_solaris2
setenv CERN_LEVEL 96a
setenv CERN_ROOT $CERN/$CERN_LEVEL

and for other platforms I have things like:

setenv CERN /site/cernlib/hp700_ux90

or

setenv CERN /site/cernlib/rs_aix32
