I notice that someone was using the clasrun account to commit changes to
the repository. I think this should be strongly discouraged. Maybe
someone was doing it unintentionally, like I was at one time.

If you do your remote checkout through the clasrun account (like you would
be inclined to do if your own account's default gid were not 'clas'), it
is nontrivial (but fairly easy) to switch over to using your own account
(after your default gid is set to 'clas').

If anyone is in this situation, I can tell you how to get out of it.
