This morning I asked Peter Bonneau about the status of orders for the
input/output controller (IOC) for slow controls. He said that nothing
has been ordered yet because they are looking at the possibility of
getting an IOC that uses a powerpc chip rather than the 68040 series that
is used in the MV167. The question is whether the epics system will
operate on the power pc. The accelerator division says that the current
epics will not run on the powerpc, but they will look to see if epics
can be modified for this use.
We have been using a mv167 for tests of the high voltage system. This
issue needs to be resolved soon so that we can test a new system if a
different system is selected. Also, we will need the controllers soon
so that we can use them as the detector is commissioned.
