Connecting to a HV Mainframe
One of the calorimeter HV mainframes (HV crate) is now connected to a
LAT terminal server. This crate contains the bulk of the channels in
sector 5 and has been giving us trouble, losing its ability to
communicate via arcnet. It is the bottom mainframe in rack C3-1. These
are instructions for connecting to the serial port of the
mainframe. We are assuming that you know how to operate the mainframe
with a dumb terminal.
There are three ways to communicate with the LAT.
(1) Telnet to a VAX, IE micro3, micro1... Do a "set host/lat bcom1".
(2) Pull down "Terminals" on the NCD SETUP Menu, ask for a LAT.
(3) Use a dumb term connected to another LAT (Like the ones in
the library or cebaf center.) Do "connect bcom1".
The names of our eight ports (services) are bcom1, bcom2... bcom8.
bcom1 is the one connected to the mainframe.
In all three cases you will be prompted for a password.
It is "BC".
You are now talking to the serial port of mainframe 3 on the forward
carriage.
vt100
will get you into the vt100-oriented spreadsheet program.
