Dear Colleagues,
You will find here the second circular for the International
Nuclear
Physics Conference 1998. Please note that the deadline for sending
an
abstract of your contributed papers is February 15, 1998.
I would like to invite you to participate in this celebration of
hundred
years of Nuclear Physics in Paris. Your contribution is most
welcome.
Best regards,
Bernard Frois
Chairman of INPC98
```````````````````````````<bold>INPC98
</bold>This conference belongs to the series of the most important
nuclear
physics conferences sponsored by the International Union of Pure
and
Applied Physics (IUPAP) held every three years. The last
conferences
were held in Beijing (1995), Wiesbaden (1992) and Sao-Paulo (1989).
The scientific subjects discussed at the Conference will cover all
areas
of nuclear physics research and its applications with special
emphasis
on new directions and new opportunities. The conference will consist
of
plenary sessions, parallel sessions and poster sessions.
This conference will have a very special character, since it will be
the
physics conference celebrating the Centennial of the discovery
of
radioactivity by Henri Becquerel, and of the first radioactive
elements
by Pierre and Marie Curie.
Special emphasis will be placed on the impact of nuclear science
on
society.
<bold>SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
</bold>The Conference will have plenary, parallel and poster sessions.
Plenary
sessions will consist in invited talks. Contributed papers will=20
be
reviewed and selected for presentations either in parallel sessions
or
in poster sessions.
Plenary session talks will be aimed at an audience of non-=20
specialists.
We anticipate that, by the end of this meeting, the participants have=20
a
broad vision of nuclear physics at the turn of the century. We
have
requested that speakers emphasize concepts, recent developments,=20
future
progress and perspectives at the world level. Plenary talks should
be
understandable by physicists who are not specialists of a
specific
research domain. Specialized presentations will be held in parallel
and
poster sessions.
Topics and plenary speakers have been carefully chosen to give
a
balanced and enthusiastic review of nuclear physics. Nevertheless,
we
are aware that there are many exciting topics that will not be
presented
in the plenary sessions. It will be the task of the conveners of
the
parallel sessions to balance the scientific program by their
selection
of oral presentations contributed by the participants.
