Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Medium Energy Physics
University of Kentucky
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the experimental
medium energy nuclear physics group at the University of Kentucky. The
research involves the study of weak and electromagnetic interactions of
nucleons and pions at TRIUMF. This includes investigations of the muon
and pion capture reactions mu- p -> nu n, pi- p -> gamma gamma n and
pi- p -> e+ e- n, in order to study the nucleon's axial and pseudoscalar
form factors and the charged pion's polarizability. The pion capture
experiments will utilize the high acceptance RMC drift chamber and the muon
capture experiment a liquid scintillator neutron detector array. Data
taking is expected to begin winter 97/98.
Applicants are expected to have a Phd in particle/nuclear physics and
experience in both detector hardware and data analysis. For more information
contact Dr. Tim Gorringe at email: gorringe@pa.uky.edu phone: (606)257-8740.
Applicants should send a resume and two recommendation letters to
Dr. T. Gorringe,
Department of Physics,
University of Kentucky,
Lexington, KY 40502-0055.
USA
Applications are due by 1 August 1997. The University of Kentucky is
an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer.
