Postdoctoral Research Associate
Experimental Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics
University of South Carolina

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of South Carolina
invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in the field of
experimental intermediate energy physics beginning June 1998. Our present
research group consists of four experimentalists and two theorists, one
postdoctoral research associate and several graduate students. We are
pursuing a program of photonuclear physics with LEGS at Brookhaven National
Laboratory and CLAS at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
Studies of the spin structure of the nucleon using real photons and the
solid, polarized HD target (SPHICE) at both facilities have been approved
and are under development. An experiment at TJNAF to examine the in-medium
propagation of vector mesons has been approved and another is in preparation.

Candidates should have experience in the calibration and analysis of data
from a wide variety of particle detectors. Experience with large solid
angle detectors or the EPICS control system is a plus. The successful
applicant will reside at Newport News, VA and take a leading role in
developing on-line control software of the CLAS detector and off-line
analysis of experimental data.

Complete resumes, including the names of at least three references should
be sent to:
