POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Medium Energy Nuclear Physics
Arizona State University
Arizona State University has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral
Research Associate in the Experimental Medium Energy Nuclear Physics
program.
The principal thrust of the program involves studies of the structure
of the nucleon and few-body systems, and associated reaction dynamics.
Many of our experiments have an emphasis on polarization or similar
observables. The group is pursuing frontier experiments with the newly
commissioned Out-of-Plane Spectrometer (OOPS) project at the MIT/Bates
laboratory, and experiments with polarized deuterium and 3He with and
without polarized electron beams at the NIKHEF laboratory in Amsterdam.
The group has strong participation in a new program at Bates with the
stretcher ring, polarized targets, and a Large Acceptance Spectrometer
Toroid (`BLAST'). Studies of baryon spectroscopy and rare kaon decay
are also underway with the Crystal Ball detector at the Brookhaven
National Laboratory and with the Photon Tagger facility at Jefferson
Laboratory.
Primary consideration will be given to a candidate who will be able
to take a leadership role in the OOPS and BLAST projects at Bates.
Residence at Bates or one of the other laboratories is anticipated.
A Ph.D. is required. The initial appointment is for one year and may
be extended for up to two additional years contingent on satisfactory
performance and continued funding.
Applications consisting of a vita, publication list, and at least two
letters of recommendation under separate covers should be sent to:
Prof. Joseph Comfort
Box 1504, Physics Department
Arizona State University
Tempe, AZ 85287-1504
Applications and letters of reference by e-mail may also be made to:
comfort@meg3.la.asu.edu
Consideration of applications will begin November 1 and continue until
the position is filled. Arizona State is an Equal Opportunity and
Affirnmative Action employer.
