Dear Hall A Collaboration Member,

At this time, the members of the E89-003 working group would
like to take the opportunity to update you on our progress
with the data analysis and related topics. The list attached
to the bottom of this message summarizes what we have
accomplished so far.

If you would like to be kept up-to-date with our progress,
we invite you to subscribe to our mailserv group by doing the
following:
From the node you read your email on, send a message to
mailserv@jlab.org. The contents of the message should be
the following two lines:
subscribe oxygen_analysis
end
Then, you will receive all the working group announcements
via email. Further, to send mail to everyone who has subscribed,
from the same node as the one you subscribed from, simply
address your messages to oxygen_analysis@jlab.org. All messages
sent in this manner are archived to:
http://www.jlab.org/ccc/hypermail_archives/HALLA/OXYGEN_ANALYSIS/

And now, a summary of our progress so far:

o preliminary first-past analysis has been performed on all
the data runs taken for E89-003. This was done with the
online version of ESPACE we used during the experiment.
Nothing unforeseen has arisen.

o DHIST will be modified to perform an investigation of the
data at the detector level.

o a detailed writeup of the survey work done during the
experiment is underway. Draft versions of this document
will soon be available.

o optics databases have been re-optimized. These are superior
to previous databases because they incorporate the latest
survey results for the sieve slit position.

o a detailed writeup of the optics commissioning work performed
over the past 18 months is underway. Draft versions of this
document will soon be available.

o white spectra data analysis has been completed. This goes
to relative normalizations via the shape of the spectrometer
acceptances.

o a phase space acceptance volume Monte Carlo has been written.
This Monte Carlo uses the results from the white spectra data
to weight the random number generators used to simulate the
phase spaces.

o H data analysis has commenced. This data will be used in
conjunction with the white spectra data to set the absolute
normalization. It will also be used to test RADCOR.

o for H cross sections to be extracted, knowledge of the dead
time corrections for singles is needed. Exploration of
this deadtime correction is underway, with approaches from
both the scaler viewpoint as well as from a Monte Carlo.

o RADCOR is in the process of being modified for our use.
It is not yet ready - testing is underway. The biggest
modification was converting MBOOK I/O (Mainz) to HBOOK I/O
(Jefferson).

o wrt ALLFIT, all routines specific to our experimental
configuration have been rewritten based on the Mainz routines.
The code compiles and links successfully, but cannot be tested
until updated MBOOK libraries are available.

o the data (86 Gb) has been copied to DAT tape for offsite
analysis at ODU and DLT4000 tape for offsite analysis at MIT.
Rungroups should feel free to contact us to learn how to
get started on bulk tape copying at Jefferson.

o ESPACE has been compiled on the ABACUS farm at MIT
(12 X 433 MHz CPUs). The data tapes have been installed in
the ABACUS silo, and analysis is ready to proceed. Preliminary
testing indicates a replay rate of 4 X 280 Hz as opposed to
an average replay rate of 100 Hz here at Jefferson.

o a detailed writeup of the analysis of the beam energy
determination for E89-003 is underway. Multiple
approaches are leading to the same final result which is
encouraging. Draft versions of this document will soon be
available.

o a detailed writeup of the charge determination work performed
for E89-003 is underway. Draft versions of this document will
soon be available.

o analysis of expected missing mass resolution based on knowledge
of the spectrometer optics and multiple scattering in the target
and the various windows has been performed. Results compare
very favorably to what was actually achieved for E89-003.

o Van Orden has been approached for theoretical calculations
for our kinematics, and is in the process of providing them.

o the E89-003 website (http://www.cebaf.gov/~fissum/e89003.html)
has been upgraded. Feel free to forward requests for additions
or things to post.

Best Regards,

Kevin
