Dear Hall A Collaborator:

The Jefferson Lab Users Group is organizing a major meeting titled
"Physics & Instrumentation with 6-12 GeV Beam & Beyond" to take place from
June 15-18.

Hall A will be represented a number of different ways at this meeting:

June 16 8:30-9:15 - 30 minute plenary presentation of upgrade ideas and new
instrumentation being considered for Hall A, including at least a
mention of the physics which can be addressed with the upgrade and/or
new instrumentation. Since this is a plenary session, it gives
everyone an opportunity to see what the various Halls are considering.

June 17 13:30-17:30 - Parallel sessions on physics topics that the Hall A
collaboration will want to participate in.

June 18 8:30-12:00 - Parallel sessions by each Hall. We will probably have
short presentations on both physics at the higher energies and on
possible new ideas for instruments - or perhaps a panel discussion.
The hope of the workshop is that such sessions might culminate in the
formation of a working group which will pursue the idea eventually
to a proposal stage for funding.

June 18 14:00 - 15 minute summary of the ideas which came out of the above
parallel session.

The working group meeting that was held during the Hall A Collaboration Meeting
on April 3 laid a lot of the ground work for these activities. There appears
to be some interest in the construction of a high momentum, good resolution
spectrometer to take advantage of the physics opportunities presented by a 8-12
GeV beam. The physics that could be done include:

- exclusive form factor measurements.
- semi-inclusive and exclusive measurements in the deep inelastic scattering
region, including measurements of parity violation.
- measurements of forward angle meson production.
- virtual Compton scattering.
- constituent counting rule tests.
- studies of color transparency and hadronization via (e,e'J/psi).
- measurements of spin-dependent structure functions.

Please consider making a contribution to the Hall A parallel session. Also,
please let us know if you have any suggestions for people/specific-topics in
the discussion session, or any of the other Hall A portions of the meeting.

The 8 GeV and Beyond Working Group covenors...
