Hall A Web Pages

Dear colleague,

I would like to give a brief update on the Hall A Web pages. Our Web
material seems to have fallen into neglect to some extent, and this may
be a good time to update and add to the information available.

We especially need contributions in the following areas

* Experiment homepages

If you are heavily involved in an approved (or conditionally
approved) Hall A experiment, regardless of when it is
expected to run, please consider creating a "homepage"
for it. The page could contain a summary of the physics
(abstract, proposal), contact addresses, list of collaborators,
publications, Monte Carlo results, bibliography, etc.

If you already have a homepage, even better, please provide
the URL.

* Equipment homepages

If you have been heavily involved in the construction and/or
commissioning of Hall A equipment, you might want to put
available material into an "equipment homepage". Some good
homepages already exist, for instance for the VDCs, the FPP,
and some of the targets.

* Link to collaboration home institutes

If your Hall A collaboration institute or group has a homepage
(it most likely will :), please provide the preferred URL so
we can link it to the Hall A pages.

* Publications/Technical Notes

If you have any writeup not yet available on the Web, please
contribute them.

On another note, it was suggested at last week's collaboration meeting
that you may post any communication that you would like the collaboration
to receive (e.g. a Postscript draft of a paper) on the Web instead of
mailing the (possibily large) file to everyone. Just send an email
message telling your recipients about the URL of the file, and it will
be considered equivalent to sending the file itself. Note that you
can directly download a file from the Web using the 'lynx' browser:

lynx -source http://the.web.address/somedir/thefile.ps > thefile.ps

Following is some general information that you may find useful for reference.
As you know, the main Hall A page can be found at

http://www.cebaf.gov/Hall-A/

The directory changed some time ago from '/halla/' to '/Hall-A/', so
if you have links to this page, you might want to check if they are current.

If you would like to post information on the Web, you can put the material
on the JLab CUE computers. Create a directory

/home/user/public_html

(where 'user' is your username) and put your HTML, Postscript, source code,
text files, etc. there. The file

/home/user/public_html/userfile.html

for example, can then be accessed at the URL

http://www.cebaf.gov/~user/userfile.html

Of course, you may set up your material on your home institute's server
as well. If you have generally stable network connections, this is
equally acceptable to using the JLab systems.

Material that is likely to remain static for long periods of time, or
which you would like to be maintained by JLab staff, should be put in the
general Hall A disk area.

Please send contributions, suggestions, and comments to

ole@cebaf.gov

Best regards,
Ole Hansen
