Meeting at JLab yesterday

Dear Photofission folks:
We discussed scheduling, hardware, electronics, data acquisition, and data
reduction at our meeting yesterday.

Schedule:
It looks like the present schedule may actually hold, since the
accelerator has been operating very well in recent months. This means we
need to make plans for manning the run periods March 14-23 and April 1-6,
together with a few days before and after. To this end, please let me
know whether you plan to be at JLab for any (or all) of this time. It
would be best if you could let me know by the end of the month--say by
Feb. 2 (Ground Hog Day). About 16 of the people at the meeting signed up
to participate, so far.

Hardware: We decided to continue our project to modify the table to
accommodate both the fission chamber and the small Pb-glass detector. We
also will instrument a small plastic scintillator-plus-converter as an
intermediate beam monitor, to be mounted just downstream of the
experiment. This will give us a double-check on the downstream devices.

Electronics: Ditto with acquiring more suitable splitters for the ADC/TDC
lines.

Data acquisition: We need to re-think our rate calculations, now that the
DAQ capabilities are in the several-hundred-Hz range. We still will
trigger on all fission events, however. We may run with a higher current
or thicker radiator, however.

Data reduction: Catalina is making good progress, but was not yet ready
to show any results. We'll probably have our next meeting in Washington
in early February, at which point we expect to deal with this subject in
detail.

So once again, Happy New Year, and I look forward to seeing many of you
soon.

All the best, Barry
