Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting 25 June 1996
I. Engineering: (Bill Schneider)
A. Alignments: setting up centerline for detector rail installation.
B. Joyce Miller working on Cryotarget design. Catching up on
documentation work not done by Hall C is time consuming now but
should be beneficial later.
C. Concrete: current work by Golden Eagle should be completed by 8 July.
D. Fire suppression systems:
1. Worsham (sprinklers) is 95% complete
2. Expect all systems completed and ready for review by the end of
July
E. Q1: Claude Lesmond (Saclay) will be arriving this weekend to begin
commissioning.
F. Hadron Arm:
1. LCW almost complete
2. Final installation of cable pulls and tie ins should be finished next
week.
3. Start gas cleanup of Quads in July
4. Dipole will not be ready until August
II. Magnet Measuring and Monitoring: (John LeRose)
A. Expect Dipole mapper to be fully operational by Friday (28 July)
B. QMM:
1. Q2 mapping almost completed. Short report on data by Gilles
Quemener. Q2 looks just like Q3.
2. Problem noted and discussed re ambiguity in current readouts on
Q2.
III. Commissioning: (Eddy Offermann)
A. 2nd Collimator Box arrives this Friday
B. 1st Order Aberration study of May run show nearly perfect point to
point focus at final settings.
C. Comparison with COSY looks reasonable. Not enough information to
go much further.
D. Developed automatic procedure to determine time offsets. Makes many
things look better.
IV. Polarimeters and Cryotarget: (Jian-Ping Chen)
A. Compton Polarimeter:
1. Chicane Magnet review last week went well. Jefferson Lab is
pleased with the effort by the French group to incorporate
established laboratory standards into the design.
2. Also had several technical meetings last week
3. Minutes will be available on WWW soon.
B. Cryotarget:
1. Starting to get a positive response from users re manpower
shortage.
a) Riad Suliman working on diode calibration
b) Gary Rutledge (W&M) starting
c) Kathy McCormick will start working on EPICS controls
for the cryotarget after completing work on the detector
HV controls.
2. Design effort going well
3. Showed plan for space usage in the hall. Concept looked OK.
V. Beamline: (Arun Saha)
A. ARC energy measurement
1. light pipes installed.
2. mirror calibration results discussed by Pascal Vernin.
B. Target Chamber: Dick Lindgren (U.Va.) is here working on the
chamber.
VI. DAQ: (Bob Michaels)
A. working on readout of Hadron arm detectors
B. porting software to Sun
C. warning re shift of IP subnet addresses on Thursday.
VII. Chamber Gas system: (Howard Fenker)
A. Making progress
B. Will need electrical power in the shed in one week in order to proceed.
C. Pulling extra gas tubes discussed.
VIII. Detectors: (Bogdan Wojtsekhowski)
A. Finished assembly of Hadron VDC’s
B. New support for pre-shower counters welded.
C. Both front FPP chambers installed on detector frame.
D. Design of hardback for shower counters going OK.
IX. Operations Manual & Møller Polarimeter: (Sirish Nanda)
A. Møller Polarimeter meeting tentatively scheduled for 25 July
B. Hall A base equipment review.
1. need to have operations manual approved and signed before real
experiments can begin.
2. scope:
a) procedures for experiments
b) operational safety
c) conduct of operations
3. Sirish organizing the effort to get everything done by
20 November. Showed plan.
a) 1 July: assignment of subsystem responsibilities
b) 31 August: draft document
c) September: review process
d) October: address issues and concerns
e) 20 November: completed operations manual
4. Desire for user involvement expressed.
X. Current Monitoring: (Branko Vlahovic)
A. overview of planned system presented with expected performance
specifications.
B. list of equipment needed presented. Approval urgently needed to
maintain schedule.
C. list of outstanding tasks (calibrations, stability studies, etc.)
D. discussion re implications for parity violation experiments and general
characteristics and possible limitations of the proposed system.
