Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting 10 September 1996
1 Commissioning: (E. Offermann.)
1.1 Short term: (weekend runs)
1.1.1 9/21-22 16 degrees, 845 MeV, optics and trigger studies
1.1.2 9/28-29 45 degrees, 845 MeV
1.1.3 Riad will start setting up shift schedules
1.2 Long term plan discussed (see

2 Mechanical Engineering: (John Hogan)
2.1 Filling Hadron Arm with Helium as of this morning
2.2 Hadron Arm vacuum box coming along
2.3 Shield House Doors:
2.3.1 Contract awarded for repairs.
2.3.2 Actuator system being purchased.
2.3.3 Handle will be installed this week.
3 Electrical Engineering: (James Proffitt)
3.1 Continuing work on checking out power supplies and controls for the
Hadron Arm
3.2 TACL logic for cryogenics updated
4 Chamber Gas System: (Howard Fenker)
4.1 Continuing to make progress.
4.2 Biggest remaining obstacle is safety paperwork.
5 Controls: (Javier Gomez)
5.1 Looking into EPICS control of Slit Box
5.2 Working on replacing DAC on Q2/3 power supplies. Should not change
current readout but will facilitate current setting. Should also make
things generally more stable.
5.3 Spectrometer leveling and aligning scheme discussed. Automatic system
probably not available until next September (‘97). Interim plan will
require about one shift after each spectrometer move and will have to be
coordinated with survey group. Eddy suggests that we buy our own
theodilites in order to eliminate our dependency on the survey group.
6 DAQ: (Bob Michaels)
6.1 Ordering parts for Fast Raster & Computer upgrade
6.2 Fast Raster can start going in as early as January if manpower is
available. Prompted discussion of when we will really need the raster.
Maybe not in January.
7 Beamline: (Arun Saha)
7.1 Run summary sheets distributed and discussed. Arun asks that people
look over the run sheets and let him know if there are any apparent
errors.
7.2 Preparing a checklist for delivering beam to Hall A. Should eliminate
foolish, time consuming errors.
8 Magnet Measuring and Monitoring: (John LeRose)
8.1 Review of the Septum Magnet plans scheduled for 3 October in L207.
Document should be ready by the end of this week. Franco Garibaldi
and Guido Urciouli are here this week working on the document.
8.2 Making progress on analysis of dipole maps. Hope to have some results
by next week.
9 New staff member (TJNAF Hall A Post-Doc) Meihua (Mei Mei) Liang
introduced.
10 Cryo-Target: (Jian-Ping Chen)
10.1 Design:
10.1.1 Cell block design is completed
10.1.2 3D view of target cell is completed
10.2 Assembly:
10.2.1 2 techs back on cryotarget work.
10.2.1.1 Working on super insulation on piping in Cryo can
10.2.1.2 Getting together chemicals for cell etching and plating
10.2.2 Received 4 more heat exchangers. Problems with heat
exchangers discussed.
10.3 Software: Hall C code previously ported over has been tested with real
devices. Beginning to add new code.
10.4 New Post-Doc Lars Ewell from U.Md. introduced.
10.5 STILL studying long term stability of pressure transducers.
10.6 Gary working on preliminary design of solenoidal valve relay box
10.7 Discussion of merits and limitations of target density monitoring
techniques.
11 Møller Polarimeter: (Sirish Nanda)
11.1 Almost all hardware on order.
11.2 Shielding insert changed to stainless steel tube with soft iron collar.
11.3 Meeting tentatively scheduled for 29 September to review list of tasks
and responsibilities.
12 Parity background studies meeting scheduled for 20 September.
