Hall A Group Meeting 7 October 1997
1 Meeting being run by Javier Gomez in Kees=92 absence.
2 Run Report: Jian-Ping Chen
2.1 H2 and D2 cells have been stable since=20
cooldown.
2.2 Put 129 microamps on the LH2 target last=20
Saturday (4 October)
2.3 H2 boiling tests completed
2.4 ep and parity coil pulsing tests completed
2.5 D2 boiling tests still underway
2.5.1 Put 120 microamps on the 15 cm LD2 cell=20
(over 700 Watts). Speculation is that this=20
may be a world record.
2.6 Plans for the end of the run are to complete=20
the D2 boiling tests followed by Parity tests.
2.7 Riad Suleiman reports on preliminary analysis=20
of D2 data
2.7.1 ytgt distribution
2.7.2 Elastic spectrum
2.7.3 Preliminary results of boiling tests (4%=20
reduction in apparent target thickness at=20

4 Installation: Ed Folts

4.2 Proceeding as beam allows to work on Hadron=20

4.3 Expect to finish the horizontal positioning=20
system Thursday or Friday.
4.4 Moving Electron arm to 12.5 degrees tomorrow.
4.5 Pierre Bertin asks to be allowed to get inside=20
the ep chamber. Ed agrees.
4.6 Question re readiness of remote motion=20
capability for the spectrometers. They=92re ready=20
to go except for formal changes to the ops=20
manual. Will also need to install and the=20
stops.
5 Beamline: (Arun Saha)
5.1 Reviews results of Ion chamber tests over the=20
weekend. Things can be very quiet except at the=20
dump with carefully tuned and steered beam.
5.2 Briefly discussed have the capability to=20
teleconference between MCC and the counting=20
house.
5.3 Reports that Accelerator would like a list of=20
tasks for the January shutdown by the end of=20
October.
6 Design/Engineering: (Paul Brindza)
6.1 Making progress on Polarized 3He and the=20
radiator.
6.2 Scattering chamber for septum magnet setup is=20
completed and being shipped.
6.3 Re septum magnets: e-mail from Franco indicates=20
that they are close to closing a deal.
6.4 Discussed need for a new more secure bench for=20
the BPM=92s and super harps in the Hall.
7 DAQ: (Bob Michaels)
7.1 Reports on DC raster tests. Indicated a need of=20
a small (10%) change in calibration.
7.2 Dave Prout reports on AC tests. Shows assorted=20
plots indicating the effectiveness of the=20
raster.
8 Paul Rutt reports on the long range ESPACE planning=20
group:
8.1 planning a discussion Friday morning (all are=20
welcome) Trying to sort out options that are=20
available to us for within the next five years=20
and the resources required.
8.2 Will also try to send an agenda for a meeting=20
sometime around the collaboration meeting.
9 Geraud Laveissiere reports on problem with one of=20
the BCM cavities. Micrometer for tuning is not=20
functional. Will try to repair it on Thursday.
10 Meme Liang reports that she=92s still working on data=20
analysis for 89-003
11 James Proffitt reports:
11.1 Working on commissioning of the hydraulic=20
horizontal positioning system.
11.2 Re Hadron dipole power supply: damage was more=20
extensive than it first appeared. Hopefully all=20
will be repaired on Thursday. Will then need=20
two days to checkout. The UPS is due in at the=20
end of the month.
12 Sirish Nanda reports:
12.1 Working on analysis of FPP data with a Rutgers=20
student
12.2 Discussion of M=F8ller shielding plans. Arun Saha=20
is concerned that there is as yet insufficient=20
baseline data on background to go ahead with=20
the collimator insertion at the dipole=20
entrance. Sirish disagrees.=20
