1.1.1 Everybody is pleased with how things are=20
going.
1.1.2 Much appreciation for the hard work=20
involved expressed.
1.2 Re beam schedule: At meeting today reactions to=20
the published schedule were extremely limited.=20
Very few if any changes are likely.
2 Installation: (Ed Folts)
2.1 Have moved out of rental trailers into =93The=20
Condo=94.
2.2 Working on list of work for the=20
January/February shutdown. List will be=20
presented next week.
2.3 Working on leveling system. Some parts will be=20
changed (upgraded) to meet RADCON requirements.
2.4 Scheduled to install the M=F8ller Dipole=20
collimator on the 18th.
2.5 Starting to stage jobs and materials for=20
January.
3 James Proffitt reports:
3.1 Working on list for addition to Ed=92s January=20
list.
3.2 UPS components are in. Will be installed in=20
January.
4 Al Gavalya reports:
4.1 Joyce is working on design for the vertical=20
positioning system
4.2 Susan is detailing the radiator design.=20
Radiator is to be installed during the January=20
shutdown.
4.3 Al is continuing work on polarized 3He (see the=20
web page) and the lifting fixture for S3&4. A=20
needs to get some details from Paul Rutt re=20
compatibility of lifting fixture with FPP.
5 Run Report E91-026:(Zein-Eddine Meziani)
5.1 No beam almost all day yesterday (Monday=20
10 Nov.) due to a magnet problem in one of the=20
arcs. Beam returned around midnight.
5.1.1 Q2 =3D 5.4 (GeV2) point with Al. and (e,e=92p)=20
calibration completed=20
5.1.2 Beam given to VCS for one shift today=20
(Tuesday)
5.2 Next plan to go to highest Q2 point=20
(Q2 =3D 5.8-6, Ebeam =3D 4.4 GeV)
5.3 Kees asks for regular weekly report of beam=20
availability (estimated at 65% last week)
6 M=F8ller Polarimeter: (Sirish Nanda)
6.1 Preparing for test run next week. Testing the=20
effect of collimator at dipole entrance on=20
background. Will run for 2 hours before=20
maintenance day without collimator then 2 hours=20
after with collimator in. Problems:
6.1.1 TOSP has expired on the dipole. Kees says=20
discussion have been started to come to an=20
acceptable arrangements.
6.1.2 Beam energy change during interruption=20
could be problematic.
6.2 Arun Saha wants to get ion chamber data during=20
the tests, asks to be kept informed of=20
developments.
6.3 Kits have been order to upgrade power supplies.=20
Will provide capability for M=F8ller running and=20
with quads as beam elements up to 6 GeV.
7 Meme Liang reports that she=92s working on the survey=20
report. Should be finished tomorrow.
8 DAQ: (Bob Michaels)
8.1 Working on analysis. Nothing to report.
8.2 Prediction is made that with multi-block=20
readout and buffering DAQ capability should be=20
20% deadtime at 3 kHz.
9 Beamline: (Arun Saha)
9.1 Had discussions last week with Pascal Vernin re=20
ARC beam energy measurement.
9.1.1 Shed: asking for separate bids.
9.1.2 Mapping: Hall C arc magnet will come out=20
25 November to be mapped in December.
9.2 Developing a test plan, along with accelerator=20
people, for dispersive beam tuning (needed for=20
ARC). Hope to have completed by December.
9.3 Beam Event Planner/Logger is now available. Run=20
coordinators encouraged to make use of.
9.4 Discussion re using electronic logs instead of=20
or as supplement to written logs.
10 ESPACE and the Web Page: (Ole Hansen)
10.1 Next release of ESPACE almost ready.
10.1.1 Requested changes over the last month are=20
in the process of being implemented.
10.1.2 New optimization attempted, being checked=20
carefully
10.1.3 New version will be tested by the code=20
development team before release.=20
10.1.4 Test release expected to be ready by the=20
end of this week.
10.1.5 Jeff Templon asks that he and Werner get=20
a chance to test it as well.
10.2 Re submissions to the Web page. See Ole=92s e-
mail.
10.3 Collaboration mailing list being updated by the=20
user liaison office.
11 Magnet Measuring and Monitoring/Optics: (John=20
LeRose)
11.1 During shift with no beam yesterday discovered=20
that software determined compensating coil=20
settings for the Hadron Dipole NMR were too low=20
at very high field settings (900-1000 amps,=20
B > 0.8 T, where we haven=92t run before). This=20
made it very difficult to get a =93lock=94.=20
Immediate fix was to allow manual override of=20
the software settings on the compensating=20
coils. The software settings will be updated=20
later. This was written up in the log book,=20
verbally communicated to the run coordinator=20
and the shift leader, noted in the instruction=20
manual for setting and monitoring magnets, and=20
noted on the white board. During the beam=20
outage data was taken to determine optimal=20
values in the B > 0.8 T region. Data was=20
plotted and put in the log book as well. This=20
morning the white board message had been erased=20
and no one in the counting house knew anything=20
about it.
11.2 Discussion followed on ways to better=20
communicate with each other. Jeff Templon=20
suggests keeping a special separate logbook of=20
technical problems and fixes. All shift workers=20
would be required to read this logbook and,=20
should it be discovered that they haven=92t read=20
it, they should be summarily hit upon the head=20
with the book. Of course he was joking about=20
the hitting on the head part.
12 Cryo Target and Compton Polarimeter: (Jian-Ping=20
Chen)
12.1 Cryo Target:
12.1.1 Software improvement for IOC crash=20
problem seems to be working well.
12.1.2 Have had beam currents as high as 100=20
microamps in Hall A and 70 in Hall C. This=20
was pushing the limits of ESR cooling=20
capacity. Discussion followed on ESR=20
capacity and limits on coolant use.=20
Recommend that all changes in coolant=20
demand be made slowly while keeping ESR=20
and Hall C informed of activities.
12.1.3 Looking into problems with IOC losing=20
control.
12.1.4 Still have some small problems. Repairs=20
being planned.
12.1.5 Results from data analysis show 2-4%=20
density fluctuations at 100 microamps.=20
Analysis continues.
12.2 Compton Polarimeter:
12.2.1 Saclay contingent arrives this Thursday=20
for 1 week visit
12.2.2 Main meeting planned for Monday=20
(17 November) 1000-1200 re planning for=20
installation and commissioning.
12.2.3 Discussion of radiation level testing.=20
There are concerns for the safety of the=20
mirrors etc.
12.3 Polarized 3He meeting planned for this Saturday=20
(15 November)
