Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting 9 December 1997
1 Run Report exp. 91-026: (Lars Ewell)
1.1 Michael Kuss will be run coordinator until the=20
end of the run.
1.2 Have completed Q2 =3D 5 point (34 counts)
1.3 Plan is to go back to Q2 =3D 5.4 to get more=20
statistics and if time allows go to Q2 =3D 3,=20
which hasn=92t been done yet.
1.4 Problems:
1.4.1 Some sociological problems with hall B,=20
nothing serious, we=92re learning to get=20
along.
1.4.2 IOC crash on Sunday requiring restoration=20
of backup files caused magnets to warm up.=20
Why files got corrupted is not understood=20
at this time.
2 Detectors: (Bogdan Wojtsekhowski)
2.1 Aerogels: Time resolution has been improved,=20
can still do better. Was unable to pull out=20
Kaon peak because of problems with ESPACE.
2.2 Analyzing H(e,e=92p) data at E0 =3D 4.045 GeV.=20
Observes discrepancy between missing momentum=20
resolution and angular resolutions.
2.3 Shower and preshower counters Cosmic ray=20
calibrations:
2.3.1 Comparison with results from one year ago=20
show that things are pretty stable.
2.3.2 Problem with one block revealed by doing=20
the calibration, probably electronic=20
jitter or an unstable PMT.
3 ESPACE: (Ole Hansen)
3.1 Compiling with preprocessor on IBM. Should have=20
IBM version running by tomorrow (10 December)=20
3.2 Preprocessor working well. Should be easy to=20
change to FORTRAN 90.
4 Michael Kuss reports:
4.1 Gas samples still haven=92t been sent to Lawrence=20
Livermore Lab. Critical person was on vacation.
4.2 Debugging beam position handling in ESPACE.
4.3 Working on simulation program development.
5 Cryotarget and Compton Polarimeter: (Jian-Ping Chen)
5.1 Cryotarget:
5.1.1 Attempt to setup direct controls from the=20
counting on the last maintenance day was=20
unsuccessful.
5.1.2 Target is running OK.
5.2 Compton Polarimeter:
5.2.1 Damaged Dipole has been moved to the test=20
lab. People from Saclay will inspect it=20
tomorrow.
5.2.2 Decision has been taken to put Sun=20
Workstation in the Hall A cluster.
6 DAQ: (Bob Michaels)
6.1 Analyzing parity data.
6.2 Making tests in preparation for parity
6.3 Test of new MLU program shows an increase in=20
efficiency from 98% to 99.5%
7 Optics: (John LeRose)
7.1 Reports on initial results of effort to=20
evaluate the effects of multiple scattering on=20
expected resolutions in the spectrometers. More=20
systematic studies underway.
8 Jack Segal reports that 7 racks are being installed=20
upstairs in the Counting House. Will be situated=20
facing toward the wall with 4.5 feet clearance to=20
the wall. Facing the wall will make it easy to gate=20
off access to racks.
9 Controls: (Javier Gomez)
9.1 Looking at survey results for Deuterium=20
experiment.
9.1.1 Discrepancy in optics axis of both arms=20
(0.2 mm Hadron and 0.3 mm Electron) within=20
expected precision of measurements.
9.1.2 BPM=92s have not moved.
9.2 Working on installation plan for hydrostatic=20
leveling system.
9.3 Have identified bus adapters to drive VME=20
crates in the power supply area from a CPU in=20
the hut. Inexpensive and should work.
