Tenure Track Faculty Position in Experimental
Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics
University of South Carolina
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of South Carolina,
in partnership with Jefferson Laboratory (JLab), invites applications for a
tenure track assistant professor position in intermediate energy nuclear
physics. We anticipate filling the position by August 1997.
Currently, our three person group is pursuing a vigorous research program
using real photons at the LEGS facility at Brookhaven National Laboratory,
using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab, and at the GRAAL facility in
Grenoble, France. Studies of the spin structure of the nucleon using real
photons and the large, solid, polarized HD target (SPHICE) have been
approved at all three facilities. An experiment at JLab to examine the
in-medium propagation of vector mesons has been approved and another
proposal is in preparation. More details about our experimental program
can be found on our home page at http://nuc704a.psc.sc.edu/nuclear.html.
The successful applicant will be expected to assume a leadership role in our
JLab program, both in the experiments already approved and in the
development of new proposals. Applicants should have a Ph. D. in physics
and relevant postdoctoral experience. They should have demonstrated ability
to initiate and lead research, an established record of publications in
scientific journals, and good teaching skills. Prior experience in
electromagnetic nuclear physics is desirable.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, the names and addresses
of at least three references, and a letter with a description of teaching
and research interest. Applications should be sent to:
