POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate
position in the Experimental Medium Energy Nuclear Physics Group
of Joseph Comfort and Ricardo Alarcon at Arizona State University.
The principal thrust of the program is investigation of QCD degrees
of freedom in the nucleon and few-body systems, with an emphasis on
experiments involving polarization or similar observables. The group
is pursuing frontier experiments with the Out-of-Plane Spectrometer
(OOPS) project at the MIT/Bates laboratory, and experiments with
polarized deuterium and 3He with and without polarized electron beams
at the NIKHEF laboratory in Amsterdam. A new program at Bates with
the stretcher ring, polarized targets, and a Large Acceptance
Spectrometer Toroid (`BLAST') has been approved. Innovative studies
of baryon spectroscopy are underway with the Crystal Ball detector at
the Brookhaven National Laboratory and with the Photon Tagger facility
at the Thomas Jefferson Laboratory.
Residence at one of the laboratories is possible. A Ph.D. is required.
Funding for the position is provided by a NSF grant. The initial
appointment is for one year and may be extended for up to two additional
years contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding.
