The College of William & Mary
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Physics/System Administration
The Department of Physics at the College of William & Mary seeks a
post-doctoral fellow in computational physics and/or data analysis,
who will also provide computer systems and network support within
the Department. The successful candidate must have system-level
expertise with Unix and networking, and experience in computational
research related to the areas in which the Department is active.
These include, among others, plasma and fluid turbulence, non-linear
dynamics, condensed matter theory, quantum Monte Carlo methods and
applications, multidimensional nuclear magnetic resonance, large-scale
data acquisition and analysis in subatomic physics, and the use of
computers in education. Duties will be divided evenly between research,
and the maintenance and development of the departmental computer
network, which includes Sun, IBM, HP, SGI, and Linux systems.
William & Mary is in close proximity to the Thomas Jefferson National
Accelerator Facility (formerly CEBAF) and NASA-Langley, and has
recently formed an interdisciplinary research program in computational
science. Further information regarding the Department can be found at
http://www.physics.wm.edu.
The initial appointment is for one year, available immediately and
extendible to two years. Applications will be reviewed from
April 25, 1997 until the position is filled. The College of William
and Mary is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Members
of underrepresented groups (including people of color, persons with
disabilities, Vietnam veterans and women) are encouraged to apply.
