Massachusetts Institute of Technology
LABORATORY FOR NUCLEAR SCIENCE

Postdoctoral Associate

The Laboratory for Nuclear Science at MIT invites applications for
a postdoctoral associate position with the Medium Energy Physics
Group. This position will involve work on a program of spin-
dependent electron scattering from polarized few body internal
targets at the Bates Linear Accelerator (operated for DoE by MIT)
and at DESY. AT DESY the Medium Energy Physics Group is collaborating
in the HERMES experiment to probe the spin structure of the nucleon
and has an active role in data analysis and in the polarized targets.
HERMES is taking semi-inclusive spin asymmetry data on the proton and
neutron with a 27.5 GeV longitudinally polarized positron beam. At
Bates, the Bates Large Acceptance Spectrometer Toroid (BLAST) is under
final design and construction will soon commence. A major thrust of
the BLAST program is to understand the spin-dependent response of
few-body nuclei in the 1 GeV energy range in a comprehensive way.
The Medium Energy Physics Group has a central role in the BLAST
project and has major responsibility for drift chambers, polarized
targets, and data analysis.

Requirements: A Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics is
the minimum requirement.

Please send curriculum vitae, publications list, and three letters of
reference to:
