THEORETICAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
University of Colorado, Boulder
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in theoretical
nuclear physics. A Ph.D. in Nuclear Theory or related areas is
required. Research in Nuclear Theory at the University of Colorado has
been focussed on field theoretic models of nuclear and sub-nuclear
structure, and electroweak interactions in the nuclear domain. The
initial appointment is for one year, renewable by mutual agreement.
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and three letters
of recommendation to: Prof. S. J. Pollock, Nuclear Physics Laboratory,
Campus Box 446, University of Colorado, Boulder, Co 80309-0446, which
should be received by April 15, 1996.
For further information call 303-492-7483, or send e-mail to
pollock@lucky.colorado.edu, or look at

The University of Colorado at Boulder strongly supports the principle
of diversity. We are particularly interested in receiving applications
from women, ethnic minorities, disabled persons, veterans and veterans
of the Vietnam era.

TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION
Experimental Nuclear Physics
Christopher Newport University
Newport News, Virginia
Christopher Newport University anticipates an opening for a tenure-track
assistant professor position in experimental nuclear physics available for
the Fall of 1996. This position is partially funded by the Continuous
Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) and carries a reduced teaching
load.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the
department's ongoing experimental nuclear physics program with the CEBAF
Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). This will include proposal writing
and integral involvement in hardware and/or software development for CLAS.
CNU's experimental nuclear physics group consists of four full-time faculty
members. In addition to having approved CLAS experiments, the current
activities of the group include development of the CLAS triggering system,
data acquisition and graphical display of CLAS events, and developing data
analysis tools to be used by the CLAS collaboration.
CNU (http://www.cnu.edu) is Virginia's newest public university. It has an
attractive campus in Tidewater with an enrollment of approximately 5000
students. The department consists of about 20 physicists, computer
scientists and engineers enjoying an exceptionally collegial atmosphere.
In addition to baccalaureate degrees in Applied Physics, Computer
Engineering, Computer Science and Information Science, the department also
offers the M.S. degree in Applied Physics. The salary for the position is
competitive.
Applicants should submit a vita, a letter describing their teaching
experience and research interests relevant to the position, and should
arrange for three letters of reference to be sent. Applications must be
received by April 1, 1996. Send to David Doughty, Chair Physics Search
Committee, Department of Physics and Computer Science, CNU, Newport News VA
23606. (e-mail: doughty@pcs.cnu.edu)
Effective English language skills and a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field
are required. CNU hires U.S. citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to
work. CNU is an AA/EO Employer. Women and minorities are strongly urged to
apply.

Research Assistant Professor
Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics
University of Kentucky
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky
invites applications for a research faculty appointment in experimental
intermediate energy nuclear physics. The current experimental program
includes work at Bates, Mainz, TRIUMF, BNL, KEK and CEBAF (where we direct
the development of the Hall A Moller polarimeter); the successful
candidate will be expected to pursue a vigorous research program at CEBAF.
Pending final approval, salary and generous equipment startup costs will
be provided for an initial period of appointment beginning as soon as
September, 1996. Subsequent reappointment will be dependent upon the
receipt of continuing non-university support. Applicants must have a PhD in
experimental nuclear or particle physics, as well as an interest in the
experimental program at CEBAF.
Interested persons should send a vita and arrange to have three letters
of reference sent to: Prof. K.R. Subbaswamy, Dept. of Physics and Astronomy,
Univ. of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, 40506. The University of Kentucky is an
affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN
Postdoctoral Research Position
in
Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics
The Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics Group of the University of Illinois
has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate starting in Summer 1996.
The appointment is for participation in a program focused on the structure
of nucleons. One research program is the HERMES experiment at DESY, which
measures the spin structure functions of the nucleon via polarized inclusive
and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. The second research program
is the Drell-Yan experiment (E866) at FNAL, which measures the flavor
asymmetry of the quark sea.
A Ph.D. in nuclear or particle physics is a prerequisite, and experience in
intermediate energy nuclear physics and its associated technologies is highly
desirable. Further information about the position and research program may
be obtained from Dr. Naomi Makins (gnome@uinpluxa.npl.uiuc.edu). Interested
candidates should send curriculum vitae and the names of three references to:
