POSTDOCTORAL PHYSICIST POSITION
RUTGERS UNIVERSITY EXPERIMENTAL INTERMEDIATE ENERGY PHYSICS

A position as a postdoctoral physicist in the experimental
intermediate energy nuclear physics group at Rutgers University will be
available starting this Fall. Applicants should send a resume to
Professor C. Glashausser
Serin Physics Laboratory
Rutgers University
Box 849
Piscataway, NJ 08855-0849.
Applicants should also ask for three letters of recommendation which
should be sent to the same address. A decision on this position is
likely to be made by the end of June.

The Rutgers group, supported by the National Science Foundation,
includes three faculty members (Ronald Gilman, Charles Glashausser,
and Ronald Ransome), one staff physicist, and a number of
postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The primary centers
of activity are TJNAF (CEBAF) in Newport News, Virginia, and MAMI in Mainz,
Germany. The postdoc would be expected to work at both sites. Members of
the group are major participants in the construction of focal plane
polarimeters for hadron spectrometers in Hall A at TJNAF and Hall A1 at MAMI.
These construction projects are nearing completion. Testing and calibration
of both polarimeters are expected this fall and winter; approved
experiments will follow soon thereafter. Currently scheduled are
measurements of ratios of electromagnetic structure functions for the
the free proton and the proton inside nuclei. The group is also participating
in several experiments in Hall C at TJNAF, including the measurement of
tensor polarization in electron-deuteron elastic scattering which
is expected to run early next year. Experience in these areas is
desirable.

Rutgers University is an equal opportunity employer. Applications
from women and minorities are especially welcome.
