Changes to the Scientific Computing Environment
===============================================
On Tuesday, August 17th we will be upgrading the farm and mass storage
software, Auger and Jasmine. These changes increase performance, fix
bugs, and add some new functionality.

*** The Farm, Silos, and /cache will not be ***
*** available on Tuesday August 17th ***

Please send any comments or concerns to Bryan Hess, bhess@jlab.org.
Some changes that may affect your work after that date:
* The web pages for jasmine and auger have been redesigned to make them
clearer. It is now possible to see the tape and batch jobs that are
related to each other in a single set of web pages.
* The output of the jsub program is changed to be more informative.
* The file format for submitting jobs with jsub is unchanged unless you
use the undocumented XML based language. This affects very few users.
* The contents of the DST cache areas will be removed and reloaded from
tape to balance the load over more NFS servers. This may impact users
who NFS mount cache areas on their personal systems. Machines that
use the automounter maps to access file under /cache will see no
change.
New in this Release:
* jcache/jget performance enhancements.
* the jcache lsf queue is gone. Auger and jasmine coordinate file
movement to the farm cache for batch jobs internally and track file
use by the farm.
* Batch jobs that specify their input files from the silo are now
scheduled more efficiently.
