Outage - JASMIne upgrade week of Oct 3

Reminder! The Scientific Computing systems will be shut down
for planned upgrades during the week of Oct 3. All JASMine and
Auger systems, including all mass storage (/mss, /work, /cache)
and batch and interactive farm nodes (IFARM*, FARM*), will be
unavailable for periods during this time. Farm queues will be
closed on Sunday Oct 2 at 5pm to allow 24 hours for running jobs
to complete. Note also that power will be completely out to the
Computer Center from Monday evening through Tuesday morning.

Installation of a new Central Dispatcher for JASMine data movement,
with updated data mover clients to use the new dispatcher, will
take place. Another important change is the increase in supported
file sizes from 2GB to 20GB. All Scientific Computing users are
advised to test the larger file capability before production use.

The whole system will undergo production testing through the end
of the week. We expect systems to be back up during the day on
Wednesday, with possible interruptions to follow if needed.

This JASMine upgrade will increase data throughput for the mass storage
system, and paves the way for the upcoming project to compress data
and reuse tapes, saving a significant amount of money over purchasing
new blank tapes. The tape copies are expected to begin soon after
the systems are brought back up for production use.
