Scientific Computing Users,
The Computer Center is interested in your feedback on the Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4 64-bit testbed environment. The FARMTEST machines now
have most Scientific Computing software installed for users -- Geant4,
Root, CERNlib, Perl, Java, GNU developer environment (including 32-bit),
and Mathematica. Installation of Maple, Matlab, and IMSL software on
these systems is also in progress.
We would like your feedback in the next couple of weeks, as input to our
next farm node selection of either Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron systems. We
plan to purchase the next batch of 25 farm nodes during the month of
August. These systems will be installed running RHEL4, with the rest of
the farm upgrade from RHEL3 to follow, as scientific software
migrations are completed.
Please send comments, testing results, or other relevant information on
your usage of these systems to farm@jlab.org by Monday, August 7.
