Re: Auger/PBS batch farm available

Title:
Scientific Computing Users,

Please submit jobs to the Auger/PBS test cluster!

We need many users to submit farm jobs so that we can see how PBS and Maui perform
under load.    It's simple to use -- enter the command
     use auger/pbs
before you jsub your jobs.

Note that the farm status web pages are available onsite only. They will be opened for offsite
access as we move to a production environment.  More info is available at
     https://wiki.jlab.org/cc/external/wiki/index.php/Scientific_Computing
under the section "Auger-PBS (new)".

An upgraded Fedora Core cluster is in the works; we are currently building
FARM and IFARM machines for testing. By switching to FC from RHEL,
the lab saves significant maintenance and support costs on our RedHat
agreement. We hope to keep compatibility with CUE's RHEL5 environment.
Details to be announced shortly.

Please plan to come to Wednesday's User meeting if you're onsite, to provide feedback and
discuss the timeline for completing the Auger/PBS upgrade and decommissioning the current
Auger/LSF RHEL3 farm.

Thanks to all who have assisted in testing so far. As always, comments/suggestions
welcome... email farm@jlab.org, or call Sandy Philpott, x7152.

The latest addition to the experimental physics offline batch computing
farm is available for beta testing/friendly user mode. Currently 30 nodes
that can run 5 jobs each are installed; we will be adding more nodes over
the coming weeks.

Information is available from
  https://wiki.jlab.org/cc/external/wiki/index.php/Scientific_Computing
under the section "Auger-PBS (new)".

Please try out the new environment, and provide feedback to farm@jlab.org.
