The JLab batch compute farm is in the process of upgrade from RedHat
Enterprise Linux 3 to Fedora 8. The system FARMTESTF8 is open for
interactive logins so that users may begin testing. Many software
applications are available through the repository; only some require
local /apps installation.
Next week, Fedora 8 batch nodes will be built and added to the Auger/PBS
farm. An IFARML Fedora 8 system will be available for interactive use.
First, "use auger/pbs" and be sure to use the new Track 'fedora' when
submitting jobs to these machines for testing.
Use the status web pages at http://scdev/scicomp/ (onsite-viewing only,
while testing).
Provided that testing proceeds successfully, the JLab Auger batch farm
will be running the PBS scheduler and at least ~50 Fedora 8 nodes (dual
2.8GHz Xeon, 1GB RAM) by early March. Also current RHEL3 production
farm nodes will be upgraded to Fedora 8.
Note that the previously announced FC6, FC7, and FC8 FARMTEST nodes will
be decommissioned and reused.
