Hi everybody,
I've been invited to give a talk at the "International Workshop on
hadron structure and Spectroscopy - IWHSS08" in Torino (March 31, April
02, http://www.iwhss08.to.infn.it/), which was intended as an overview
of spin physics at JLab. The title I provided is "Spin physics at
Jefferson Lab:
selected results and future plans". If you kindly agree, I'm planning to
steal a lot from Sebastian's lectures that already contain the most
up-to-date results. The organizers required an abstract and I thought to
send the following:
"The investigation of the spin structure of the nucleon is one of the
major topics at Jefferson Lab. The high current, polarized CW electron
beam, together with solid and gaseous polarized targets allowed to make
extensive and high statistics measurements of polarized inclusive
scattering at momentum transfers ranging from deep inelastic scattering
down to near the photon point and at energy transfers covering both DIS
and the resonance region. The g_1, g_2 structure functions as well as
the DIS asymmetry A_1 have been extensively measured and moments of the
structure functions derived. These new measurements allowed to estimate
higher twists and to improve the errors on several parton distributions.
The near term program at 6 GeV will be briefly illustrated, which is
focused on extending our knowledge of the g_2 structure function and on
accessing the wider class of parton distributions of semi-inclusive pion
production with transversely polarized targets. Finally, the future
perspectives with the 12 GeV upgrade for both the inclusive and
semi-inclusive spin observables will be briefly illustrated."
Please let me know if you have any comments (I may have forgotten
somebody in the recipient list above)
Thanks and Best Regards
Marco
