POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR OR PARTICLE PHYSICS---amessage from Curtis Meyer

POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR OR PARTICLE PHYSICS

Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for an
experimentalist physicist to contribute to the development of
innovative analysis techniques for the GlueX experiment, a key
component of the 12GeV upgrade at Jefferson Laboratory. GlueX
will use a polarized beam of photons to search for exotic
configurations of quarks and antiquarks, and will rely on
detailed amplitude analyses to isolate these states from
their more conventional partners.

As part of a recently funded NSF proposal for Physics at the
Information Frontier, Carnegie Mellon University has responsibility
for the extension of a unique and flexible set of tools for carrying
out amplitude analysis. These tools will ultimately interface to
the Open Science Grid as well as provide an interface between experiment
and phenomenology. The post-doctoral researcher will continue this
existing effort. In particular, existing photo-production data from the
CLAS experiment at Jefferson Lab has formed the basis for the current
development and will continue to push the Carnegie Mellon effort
to evolve the tools that will be used in GlueX. The successful
candidate will work with a collaboration of experimentalists and
phenomenologists at Indiana University, Carnegie Mellon University,
the University of Connecticut, and Jefferson Laboratory to carry out this
work.

This position is renewable for up to three years with the starting
date negotiable. The minimum requirement is a Ph.D. in nuclear/
particle physics and programming experience.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and summary of research
interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to:

Professor Curtis A. Meyer
Department of Physics
Carnegie Mellon University
Pittsburgh, PA 15213

or electronically to: cmeyer@cmu.edu

More information on the research program at Carnegie Mellon can be found
at http://www-meg.phys.cmu.edu/~cmeyer . Review of applications will begin
immediately with applications being accepted until the position is filled.

Carnegie Mellon University is an equal-opportunity, affirmative-action employer.
