Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Nuclear Physics
Los Alamos National Laboratory
A postdoctoral position in Experimental Nuclear Physics is available with
the Subatomic Physics Group (P-25), Physics Division at Los Alamos National
Laboratory. We are seeking exceptional candidates to join us to work in the
field of fundamental symmetries. LANL is leading major efforts in this
field. Current experiments are: measurement of parity violation in
neutron-proton capture (the NPDGamma experiment), measurement of the
electron asymmetry in neutron decay using bottled ultra-cold neutrons (the
UCNA experiment), and an experiment to search for the neutron electric
dipole moment (the nEDM experiment). Experiments under development include:
an experiment to search for neutrinoless conversion of muon to electron in
the field of an atomic nucleus, precision measurement of neutron decay
parameters using cold neutrons (the abBA experiment), and a measurement of
the neutron lifetime using ultra-cold neutrons.
The current opening is with the muon-to-electron conversion experiment. The
successful candidate is expected to contribute in a significant manner to
the development of various aspects of the experiment. He or she is also
expected to participate in either the NPDGamma experiment or the nEDM
experiment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to present
his or her results to the international community and to further his/her
career by speaking in a variety of venues. He or she will join teams of
other postdocs and staff members as well as university collaborators. A PhD
or equivalent degree in experimental nuclear physics or related field is
required. Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and
outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious J. Robert
Oppenheimer, Richard P. Feynman or Frederick Reines Fellowships. Current
postdocs and graduate students in nuclear, particle or atomic physics are
encouraged to apply.
To apply, send a cv including a list of references, a list of publications
and a cover letter outlining current research interests to Dr. Takeyasu Ito
(ito@lanl.gov). Also arrange three letters of recommendation to be sent
directly to the same address. For more information, contact Dr. Takeyasu Ito
(505-606-1985, ito@lanl.gov).
