Postdoctoral position at the University of Maryland---a message fromElizabeth Beise

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND

We seek applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to
begin in or after January 2009. Our group currently consists of two
teaching faculty (Profs. E. Beise and C. Hall), a Research Physicist
(Dr. H. Breuer), two postdocs, and several graduate students. Our
group’s current research program is focused on experiments in hadron
structure and on fundamental symmetry tests involving neutrinos and
neutrons. For this position, we are particularly looking for someone who
can lead our group’s efforts in the upcoming Fermilab experiment E906
<http://www.phy.anl.gov/mep/drell-yan/members.html> , which will use the
Drell-Yan production of muon pairs from p-p annihilation to study the
distribution of the nucleon’s antiquark sea. The experiment is approved
to run and is tentatively scheduled for installation and data taking in
2010. The successful candidate will work with collaborators at Fermilab
and the University of Michigan on the development of the cryogenic
target, and participate in the development of the data acquisition and
analysis.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle
physics, or closely related fields. The appointment will be initially
for one year, with possible renewal for up to two additional years upon
mutual agreement and availability of funds. Experience with
instrumentation, data acquisition, and analysis of large data sets are
all desirable.

Applicants should submit a CV and summary of research interests, and
arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Professor E.
Beise, Dept of Physics, University of Maryland, College Park, MD
20742-4111, or electronically (pdf or plain text) to beise@umd.edu. The
University of Maryland is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
