Heavy Photon Search Collaboration
May 26 - 27, 2011
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility
Newport News, VA

Circular

The Heavy Photon Search (HPS) is a new experiment proposed for Jefferson Laboratory to search for new heavy vector boson(s) in the mass range of 20 MeV/c2 to 1000 MeV/c2. Heavy photons mix with the ordinary photon through kinetic mixing, which induces their weak coupling to electrons, εe, where ε~10-3. Heavy photons in this mass/coupling range are expected on very general theoretical grounds, and motivated by recent astrophysical evidence suggesting they might mediate dark matter annihilation and/or interactions with ordinary matter. Scientists from SLAC, FNAL, and JLAB will build a new compact, large acceptance forward spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Lab in order to search for heavy photons over a wide range of couplings, ε2 > 10-10, and masses.

The first formal collaboration meeting of collaborators of HPS experiment will focus on the design and construction of the test run apparatus. Status of preparations for the main run and other collaboration businesses will be discussed as well.
