A New Dynamics Facility Combining a Storage Ring with a Synchronized FEL

Jefferson Laboratory currently operates a kilowatt average power, sub-picosecond mid-IR Free Electron Laser as a user facility. We present plans to add an electron storage ring to this facility. Pulses of light from both sources will be synchronized at repetition rates up to 125 MHz to allow pump-probe dynamics experiments to be performed. We will present an outline of the new facility together with the operational parameters of the 2 sources. The new facility could be on line as a user facility in 20 04.

This work supported by the U.S. DOE Contract No. DE-AC05-84ER40150. The Free-Electron Laser is supported by the Office of Naval Research, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Laser Processing Consortium.
