Speaker: Vadim Guzey (Jeffferson Lab) Title: SU(3) systematization of baryons Abstract: I will discuss how the methods of the approximate flavor SU(3) symmetry of the strong interactions enable one to form a coherent picture of baryon multiplets. In particular, using the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass formula and an assumption of SU(3)-symmetric coupling constants for two-body hadronic decays, we systematize the spectrum of baryons with the masses less than 2000-2200 MeV. In order to have complete multiplets, we predict the existence of several new baryons and make predictions for their masses, widths and decay modes.
