Nucleon-Nucleon Interactions from the Quark Model Clark Downum Oxford University, UK We report on investigations of the applicability of non-relativistic constituent quark models to the low-energy nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction. The major innovations of the resulting NN potential are the use of the 3P0 decay model and hadron wave functions to model nucleon-nucleon-meson form-factors, and the use of a colored spin-spin contact hyperfine repulsive core rather than the heavy meson exchange mechanism used in the meson exchange theory of nuclear forces. We assess the ability and limitations of the model to reproduce observables of the NN force. Theoretical implications and plans for future study are discussed.
